Field Trips in Himalayan-Karakoram-Tibet Workshop (HKT) 2012

There will be three different field trips to choose from:

1. EX-1: Kathmandu-Butwal-Pokhara-Tatopani-Jomsom

It will take you along the road section from Kathmandu-Butwal-Pokhara-Tatopani and finally to Jomsom. This will be a  6 days excursion during which you will get to see a complete S-N transect from Himalayan Frontal Thrust to the Tibetan Tethys Himalaya;

2. EX-2: Kathmandu-Kodari-China Border

It  will  be  a  one  day  excursion along the Kathmandu-Kodari highway to the northern border with China. Along the way, you will pass through the Kathmandu Complex, Mahabharat Thrust, Nawakot Complex and ultimately across the Main Central Thrust to the Central Crystalline terrain; and

3. EX-3: Amlekhgunj to Kathmandu

It will be a 3 days excursion from Amlekhgunj to Kathmandu to take you from Himalayan foothills to Mahabharat Range exposing you to Siwaliks, Main Boundary Thrust, Nawakot Complex,  Kathmandu  Complex  and  the Tethys Sedimentary sequences occurring in the Lesser Himalaya at the Phulchowki Hill in Kathmandu. Organization of each field trip will depend on the number of participants who will express their confirmed interest by paying in full the cost of the field trip within the stated deadline.

All the field trips will be lead by expert members of Nepal Geological Society. The cost of each field trip will be announced in the second circular. For more information, please contact:
